Brent and WTI explained

Brent crude (109.52 $ per barrel) is the global benchmark used to price most of the world's oil, including Qatar export grades. WTI (100.99 $) is the US benchmark. The spread between them is 8.53 $ today. Over the last month Brent moved +2.74%.

Why oil matters for Qatar

Oil revenue is central to the Qatar budget, so oil prices influence government spending, the Qatar stock market (TASI) and economic sentiment. Gold and oil often react to the same global news, such as US interest rates and geopolitical tension – compare with the spot gold price.

What moves oil prices?

  • Production decisions by OPEC+ and output levels in major producers.
  • Global demand – economic growth in China, the US and Europe.
  • Inventory data, especially weekly US crude stocks.
  • Geopolitical events affecting supply routes.
  • The US dollar, since oil is priced in dollars.

How to read the chart

The gold line is Brent and the blue line is WTI, both in US dollars per barrel at the daily close. Prices are futures quotes and may be delayed by a few minutes. For gold and silver see the spot gold and silver pages.
