How is the gold price calculated?
Gram price = (ounce price in USD ÷ 31.1035) × (karat ÷ 24) × 3.75 (USD/QAR peg).
Example today: ounce 4,018.10 $ → 24K = 470.23 QAR.
How to use the gold calculator
Enter the weight in grams and choose the karat. The calculator shows the raw gold value at today's price, the price with making charge, and what a shop would pay if you sell it used. Leave the making charge empty to use the average for that karat.
Worked example
A 20 g 22K necklace: raw value 20 × 431.05 = 8,620.94 QAR; with making charge 10,076.94 QAR; resale about 8,523.94 QAR. See used gold prices for details.
What is the making charge?
The making charge (labour fee) pays for design and craftsmanship. In Qatar it is usually charged per gram – on average about 73 QAR/g for 22K and 121 QAR/g for 18K – and is higher for intricate or branded pieces. It is negotiable, especially in large souqs.
No VAT on gold in Qatar
There is currently no VAT on gold in Qatar: you pay the gold value plus the making charge only. Even so, gold bars are cheaper per gram than jewellery.
